![]() ![]() Such as with the film M cameras Ok, maybe historically coherent, but perhaps a side card port would have been tolerable even for extreme conservatorists such as the Leica people.Īn excellent feature of the camera is the silencer and soft shooting modes. The only thing that annoys me of the M9 is, to change the memory card you have to open the bottom of the camera. This of course with the AWB - if you custom balance the white the problem is not there. When the lighting is grey and dull, handling the colours becomes mode difficult, because in a grey day everything you shoot with the M9 starts to take a greenish cast. When the light condition is favorable (sunlight), the M9 colours are more realistic than the Canon's, and a real joy to the eye. The blues are probably the best blues I ever saw from a digital camera. ![]() But once you learn how to handle the M9 DNGs, the colour quality of the camera is superb! It's greens remind me somehow of the Provia slides. At first it's a bit difficult to get used to, also because there is no Lightroom or ACR profile for M9 yet. The colours of the M9 are very, very different from those of the Canon DSLR! Where the Canon cameras emphasize the reds, the M9 really boosts the green and blues. This last part will be quite exciting, because the M9 has no antimoire pass filter, so I will be able to appreciate the full resolution of my Contax and Leica SLR lenses on the M9 sensor. I will however buy adapters to use my Contax/Kiev RF lenses, and to use some reflex lenses as well, such as the Contax and Leica-R lenses. None of these lenses are really up to the task of showing the limits of the camera, but until my finances recover, they will have to do. ![]() Both M39 screwmount used with an adapter. I only have two lenses to use with this camera. That would have been impossible with a DSLR, the weight and the bulk would have been a too high danger to use driving. On my road back home from the shop, I took some snaps driving - yes driving! I set the 135mm lens to an average distance, and held the camera with my right hand, looking into the viewfinder just for the short time neccessary to take the picture. But most of the time you really want to set it to hyperfocal, because that's what rangefinder cameras are really good at: taking quick snaps, in situation where a DSLR would be too much weight and bulk. And you can really operate it with one hand, rotating your wrist left or right, up or down, click and go.įocusing is fast, although not as fast as with a DSLR. It really takes about half the time to handle it and take a photo than with a DSLR. The M9 is small, reasonably lightweight but solid, and it's so fast to handle. I mounted a lens and started to use it the moment I took it out of the box. The M9 is an incredibly easy and spontaneous camera to use. I never owned any M camera before sure, I have used other rangefinder cams, but all a bit convoluted to use for one reason or another, except for the Contax G, which I love, but which I can only use with it's own lenses. I have to say, that I am so much pleased. I mean to use this camera for as much as I have yet to live. Yep, quite unconsiderate expens but, this is not a camera that I will consider to update every 5 years like the Canon DSRLs.
